No Bake Energy Bites (VIDEO)

My nutrition intern Amy and I were doing a sports nutrition class for our Pediatric office and really wanted to emphasize the importance of fueling for a workout with nutritionally dense foods. Sometimes, different energy bars, sports drinks and gels are filled with excess sugar, artificial ingredients and food dyes and we were looking for a more natural form of fuel.

We stumbled upon this recipe for home-made energy bites and not only are they great for student athletes or fueling people through a busy day, they are also fun to make at home with your family!

We adapted our energy bites, we included:
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup ground flaxseed
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

  • Measure and add ingredients to a mixing bowl and stir until combined.

Roll into ball form and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

These bites are a great form of whole grains, protein, and omega 3 fats, with a touch of sweetness from the honey and chocolate chips!

Here is a video of Amy making the bites:
